The Facts
- A study in the journal for ‘Ergonomics’ concluded that mental performance was significantly better in those who had become skilled in the art of managing their energy. These workers committed 27 % fewer errors on tasks involving concentration and short term memory compared to those who had received no training.
- DuPont reported a 47.5 % reduction in absenteeism over a six year period for participants in a corporate energy management programme. They also found that employees used 14 % fewer sick days than non participants.
- In a study of 80 executives over a nine month period, those who managed their energy better demonstrated a 70 % improvement in their ability to make complex decisions.
- The Canadian Life Assurance company found that 63 % of participants in an energy management programme reported being more physically relaxed, less tired, and more patient during their work day. Forty seven percent reported being more alert, had better rapport with supervisors and co-workers and experienced a higher level of enjoyment at work.
- General Motors found that employees who had participated in an energy management programme had 50 % less job grievances and on the job accidents and a 40 % reduction in lost time.
- Equitable Life Assurance, General Mills and Motorola have all reported a return of between $3 and $6 for every dollar invested in an energy management programme.
- A recent survey found that 60 % of employees considered an energy management programme an incentive to remain with their current employer.
